Welcome Boney Empty Re: Welcome Boney

Post by BoneyD Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:48 am

Cheers Lads, Currently on my 3G Card in the Hospital and in a pretty crap area for signal so not getting broadband speed on it so can't get on the game.

The transplant has all gone well and the recovery is the main thing now. I really need to make sure I do alot of exercise so these new lungs last me. I've been doing 15-20 minute stints on the exercise bike, and walking up and down the ward corridor and up and down stairs. Its all a very slow process due to the extent of the surgery.

I've had all 5 Surgical Chest Drains and Intraveinous Lines removed from me (still need to have the stitches removed from where the drains were), but have had the staples removed from the main incision which has already started to heal quite nicely. Unfortunately when I had one of the Chest Drains removed it caused a small pneumothorax on the right hand side which caused part of my lung to collapse. So a couple of days ago they put a small chest drain in to remove the fluid and within 2 days its got rid of 2.5 litres off of my chest and released the air pocket that was there which has enabled my lung to start to reinflate. I'm having that drain removed tomorrow morning and then an xray a few hours later to make sure there were no catastrophes and then wait for it...... They're letting me out of here. So in just under 4 weeks after having the transplant I can go home and have my own bed Smile

I'll be having to come back for outpatient appointments at least twice a week for blood tests etc... for a few weeks, with it then going down to just once a week and gradually then monthly, quarterly etc...

But so far this transplant has not only prolonged and saved my life. Its also allowed me to do things I havent done for quite some time - Breathe Properly and this will improve more as my ribs etc all heal up.

Its hard to put it all in to words, but my heart does go out to the donor family who I know will be grieving but gave me this truly wonderful gift.

I can only hope that you guys are all registered as organ donors, its times like this when you realise quite how precious life is.

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile"

Well so far so good today, I've had the drain taken out and just got back from x-ray. Just waiting for the final yes from the Doctors to say I can go home today Smile

All the stitches are out now too. I cant wait to my first decent cup of tea when I get in as the stuff you get in here is bloody awful.

Adam,
It is great to hear that things are progressing the best they can. You have been in my prayer for quite sometime now. I thank God for all good things. I will continue to pray for you and the existing recovery you have yet to accomplish. I am thrilled to hear that you are in good spirits and I am so glad this has been able to work for you.
Paul
